That’s a Wrap on Capstone!
I am officially done with my senior Capstone project, yay! This semester I had the incredible opportunity to work on a marketing plan for Marathon Fuel with my fellow senior marketing students. For the project, my capstone class was divided into four groups. Each group was assigned to a region Marathon wanted a marketing campaign and plan for. My group was assigned to the Atlantic Coast region. Then, we came together to form a national marketing plan with each group championing either a media or sustainability idea. It was such a great project and has made me so excited for my career! I learned a lot of practical material that I will utilize throughout my career.
Tuesday morning we had our final presentation and pitch to the Marathon group. We arrived at the Inn on campus for some coffee and breakfast at 8 am. This gave my group a chance to run through our presentation real quick before the client, Marathon, arrived. Then, around 9 am Dr. Foster kicked off the presentation for us. My group presented third, so it was nice to hear the other groups before we went up. I have to admit, I was nervous for our group to go. I knew we would be OK, though! My group practiced our presentation several times before so I knew we would nail it. Once it was our turn, we did just that! At the end of all presentations, Marathon gave us positive feedback as well as a few questions about each of our plans.
Once we completed the presentations, the on-the-spot activity and the feedback section, we had lunch with our clients. This was probably one of my favorite parts of Tuesday. The Marathon team had spread out amongst the tables so that there were a few of them with each capstone group. This was a great opportunity for me to ask them about working for Marathon and working in the marketing industry. It’s not often that I get to sit down with marketing experts, let alone those working for a huge corporation, and ask questions about the field I’m entering. This experience as a whole was amazing. I am thankful though that it’s over! This was no small project and took up so much of my time and focus. I am happy to have one more thing done for senior year, I can’t believe I only have one semester left at ONU!
That’s all for now,
Abby
